Fire-resistant doors and gates

Fire-resistant doors

For doors and gates, the E and I requirements are important, R does not apply here.

  • E = Integrity
  • I = Insulation

In every building there are passage ways and in the passages of fire-resistant walls, fire-resistant doors or gates must be fitted to maintain the fire resistance of the wall during a fire.
Below are the different types of fire-resistant doors and gates with or without glazing available:

  • Fire-resistant wooden and metal single and double-leaf doors.
  • Fire-resistant sliding gates, guillotine gates, sectional gates and roller shutters.
In buildings there are not only doors and gates, but also other openings must be closed or sealed according to certain standards. You can contact WEVAHO for this purpose. We come to the site to carry out an analysis and offer a suitable solution.

We always work with BENOR-ATG approved fire-resistant doors and ISIB certified installers.

Our certified installer for Benor fire-resistant doors is ISIB 8016

The fire-resistant doors must comply with Belgian standards.

On these doors you can find the BENOR-ATG mark certification which proves that a door complies with the standards with regard to fire safety (BENOR) as well as with other requirements such as installation requirements, product performance, etc … (ATG). See below the label that should be on the side of the door under the top hinge.

The fire-resistant doors must be installed by certified installers and in accordance with the installation requirements of the BENOR-ATG mark.
In the future, this system will be replaced by the CE marking which proves that a door meets the European legislation. These are referred to as so-called EI1-doors or EI2 doors.

  • E = Integrity
  • I = Insulation
The suffix 1 or 2 stands for a difference in tests. It is now certain that EI1 doors will be mandatory in Belgium.

Fire-resistant gates

Sliding gates

Fire-resistant sliding gates offer an excellent solution for the fire- proof sealing or compartmentalisation of business premises. The sliding gates are also extremely suitable in situations where environmentally dangerous substances are stored, the so-called PGS spaces.

The gate leaf of the fire-resistant sliding gate consists of panels of unique fire-resistant, composite profiles with a standard white melange colour with a thickness of 42mm. The panels are joined together by placing horizontal galvanised steel flat bars on the gate leaf. Galvanised U-profiles are also fitted around the gate leaf. The gate leaf has a weight of 35kg per m² and a theoretical insulation value (U value) of 1,99 W/ m²K.

The fire-resistant sliding gate is a manually operated gate, equipped with a closing speed regulator with integrated 24V electro-magnetic clutch. The sliding gate is gravitationally self-closing through a counterweight. The steering can be made possible by smoke or temperature detectors, a fire detection installation if present, or through a switch.

All steel elements of the fire-resistant sliding gate can be powder coated in a RAL colour of your choice and the panels of the fire-resistant sliding gate can be painted in a RAL colour of your choice.

Guillotine gates and sectional gates

The guillotine gate is equipped with a fully vertical rail fitting and the sectional gate is equipped with a horizontal track fitting, possibly with a high lift, so that these gates can be used in spaces with the most diverse installation situations.

The gate leaf of these gates consists of panels of unique fire-resistant, composite profiles with a standard white melange colour with a thickness of 42mm. The bottom side of the gate leaf is finished with a Sendzimir galvanised U-profile. The gate leaf has a weight of 35kg per m² and a theoretical insulation value (U value) of 1,99 W/ m²K.

The side guide of the guillotine gate is fitted with a vertical rail fastening and the side guide of the sectional gate is fitted with a horizontal rail fastening, possibly with high lift, both with steel rollers, made of high-quality galvanised steel.

The top connection consists of a Sendzimir galvanised steel folding frame, which is partly filled with a fire-resistant material that swells when heated.

The motion system consists of two steel galvanised or zinc-plated steel brackets which are fixed to the wall with bolts and locking plates. Between the brackets, is the drive shaft, which is fitted with two aluminium cable drums, where the steel cables are fixed to the gate leaf. The whole is secured with a cable break and slack cable protection.

The fire-resistant guillotine gate and sectional gate are equipped as standard with a 400 V fail-safe chain wheel motor with a control box and roll-over protection. In case of a power failure, these gates will close gravitationally in a controlled way through this fail-safe drive.

The control can be made possible by smoke or temperature detectors, a fire detection installation if present or through a switch. For safe operation of the gate, an optional set of light bars can be added and connected to the control box.

The panels of these gates can be painted in a RAL colour of your choice.

The electric components (drive and control box) and any accessories (roll-over protection, up-stop-down switch) are available in an explosion-proof (ATEX) version.

Roller shutters

Fire-resistant roller shutters offer an excellent solution for the fire-proof sealing or compartmentalisation of spaces in different locations such as government institutions, shopping centres and, of course, different industrial applications. They are suitable for daily use.

The gate leaf of the fire-resistant roller shutter consists of double-walled galvanised steel slats with a thickness of 22mm and a functional height of 100mm. The slats consist of two galvanised steel profile panels of 1mm thickness which are filled with a fire-retardant material. The lower part of the reinforcement is finished with a galvanised steel angled profile. The slats are fitted on both sides with galvanised steel end cams and the gate leaf has a weight of 33 kg per m².

The side guides consist of galvanised steel tubes and finished with galvanised steel cover plates. The top connection consists of a fire hook profile on the mounting substrate above the opening into which the angled profile (which is mounted on one of the top slats of the gate leaf) falls when the roller shutter is fully closed. This creates a fully fire-resistant seal of the opening.

The motion system consists of two steel galvanised or zinc-plated brackets that are fixed to the wall with bolts and locking plates. Between the brackets is the steel drive shaft and a steel pressure roller. The gate leaf is wrapped around the drive shaft and guided through the pressure roller into the side guide.

The fire-resistant roller shutter is equipped as standard with a 400 V fail-safe chain wheel motor and is fitted with a control box and a roll-over protection. If the roller shutter has small dimensions, it is possible to equip it with a 230 V fail-safe tube motor as an option. In case of a power failure, the roller shutter is gravitationally closed and controlled by the safety drives.

The control can be made possible by smoke or temperature detectors, a fire detection installation if present or through a switch. For safe operation of the gate, an optional set of light bars can be added and connected to the control box.

The fire-resistant roller shutter can optionally be equipped with a galvanised steel roller and/or motor housing.
All steel parts of the fire-resistant roller shutter can be finished in a RAL colour of your choice.

It is also possible to supply the guides, brackets and the optional roller and/or motor housing in stainless-steel 304 or stainless-steel 316.
